John Kerr – Marsh and McLennan Agency
John Kerr was NATM’s 2017 Associate Member of the year. He serves as Director, Trailer Manufacturing for Marsh and McLennan. Marsh and McLennan provides product liability and workers’ compensation insurance specifically designed for trailer manufacturers. He was integral in Marsh and McLennan becoming members. His experience on Board includes serving on the Board of a local community college. He has spent 15 years working with trailer manufacturers delivering comprehensive insurance solutions to meet their needs. John has presented twice at NATM conventions, exhibited at every convention since joining, attended every Regulatory Roundup since joining, and has been a member of the NATM Government Affairs and Government Affairs Outreach Committees. He has also been a regular convention sponsor as well as contributor to Tracks magazine. Prior to his career in insurance, he worked as a legislative advisor and has applied that knowledge to his work on the Government Affairs committee and its initiatives. During his tenure with NATM, John has met with more than 20 Congressmen and women on behalf of the Association.
Leo Akins – Forest River
Leo has spent 31 years in the trailer industry, the last 18 of those having been with Forest River as their Corporate Director. As the Corporate Director Leo oversees Quality Assurance, Codes and Standards, PDI, and the Office of Corporate Compliance. Leo serves on the Government Affairs Committee and has presented at the NATM Convention as well as two Regional Educational Workshops. He is passionate about the industry and is looking forward to the opportunity to work with others to improve it. Leo has experience with legislators and is involved with numerous other industry organizations including; RVIA Plumbing/Electrical/Heating/Fire & Life Safety (Chair), Standards Steering Committee, RVST, TSIC, Vehicular Components, NHTSA and the ANSI 1192 and 1194 committees.
Justin Kurth – Tracker Marine
Justin is the Compliance Manager for Tracker Marine, a company that builds boat/recreation trailers. Justin has served on the Board of NMMA, ABYC, and CE/ISO as well as involvement with USCG, EPA, CARB, SAW, ASTM, and U.S. Department of Wildlife U.S. delegate to the United States National Committee. He has worked in engineering with his primary function being compliance, regulatory review and implementation, and legal interpretation for domestic/international manufacturing. His involvement with NATM has indirect, predominately in the usage and interpretation of the regulations and requirements for manufacturing. When asked why he is qualified, Justin states, “I’m adept at understanding and approaching complex articles of regulation and industry requirements with an unbiased approach, focused on the intent of building a safer product over increasing the bottom line or profit.” He also has experience with legislators.
Jon Devitt - Midwest Industries
Jon is the Chief Product Officer/VP of Engineering for Midwest Industries, a company that builds ShoreLand’r boat trailers. Jon currently sits on the NMMA board, and wants to note that he will have a conflict with the February Board meeting as they conflict with NMMA’s Miami Boat Show and meeting. Jon began his career at Midewest Industries as a Mechanical Engineer in 1997 and became the Engineering Manager in 2001. His board experience includes Chairman of Boat Trailer Manufacturers Association (NMMA MACD Division) from 2012-2016 and Director NMMA Board of Directors & Marine Accessories and Components Division (MACD) of NMMA. He is a current member of the NATM Technical Committee and has participated in the NATM Roundup in the past when it was part of the American Boating Congress. When asked to describe why he is qualified Jon says, “I worked in the marine industry for almost 30 years and have been a trailer boater since I could drive and feel I can bring insight and experience from the marine segment of the trailer industry.”
