While NATM prides itself on promoting trailer safety 365 days of the year, Trailer Safety Week offers a unique opportunity
for the trailer industry to come together and make the nation’s roadways safer one trailer at a time. The mission of Trailer Safety Week (TSW) is to improve the safety of the nation’s roadways by increasing trailer safety awareness through education of end-users, dealers, and manufacturers on safe trailering practices. Held the first week of June every year, Trailer Safety Week reaches over 60,000 individuals annually and is the first nationwide traffic safety initiative aimed at addressing safe towing practices for light- and medium-duty trailers. NATM has developed content and resources in furtherance of this mission, all available through www.TrailerSafteyWeek.com.
This year’s national awareness campaign takes place June 7-13, 2020. Trailer Safety Week has historically featured both onsite facility events and online presence. For 2020, NATM is encouraging its members to focus efforts online to reach end- users and dealers as either Trailer Safety Allies, Champions or Partners.
Trailer Safety Ally Program:
Becoming an Official Trailer Safety Week Ally is a wonderful opportunity for companies who want to be involved in the safety movement but don't have significant time to invest. NATM provides Allies with the official Trailer Safety Communications kit to promote their involvement in Trailer Safety Week and to share information about safe trailering practices. This digital kit includes pre-crafted social media posts, downloadable Trailer Safety Week graphics, a blog post and much more. Promoting the company’s involvement with Trailer Safety Week is a breeze with this jam-packed kit. The content can even be customized to include content specific to each Ally’s products and services that promote trailer safety.
Becoming a Trailer Safety Week Ally shows potential customers that this company prides itself on making safe products. Visit www.TrailerSafetyWeek.com for more information.
NATM is excited to announce new opportunities for engagement from industry members and peer organizations. For the awareness campaign to expand its reach and effectively improve roadway safety, Trailer Safety Week depends on extraordinary supporters who go above and beyond to reach their industry contacts and end-users. Further, to continue expanding the educational resources available to end-users, NATM is looking to partner with experts and other key stakeholders in towing and traffic safety.
As the Association commits itself to expansion, two new programs were created for industry organizations that would like to join NATM and its TSW Allies in improving trailer safety: TSW Champions and TSW Partnerships.
Trailer Safety Champion Program:
NATM created the Trailer Safety Week Champion program to highlight companies whose support of TSW exceeds that of a TSW Ally. As such, the company will earn greater promotional opportunities. While Trailer Safety Week includes Allies across the country, Trailer Safety Week Champions are those who fulfill the following requirements and receive the benefits listed below.
The next level of involvement is TSW Partnerships. The Trailer Safety Week Partnership program was established to recognize companies, groups, and agencies who support the mission of Trailer Safety Week through content development and resource sharing. Partnerships require more significant commitment in terms of educational content creation and the sharing of content and must conform to specific standards and requirements.

NATM looks forward to working with its members to improve the safety of the light- and medium-duty trailer industry!
For the first time in NATM history, the Association is excited to invite trailer dealers to the 33rd Annual NATM Convention & Trade Show in Nashville, Tenn. Feb. 23-25, 2021!
NATM has been committed to trailer safety for more than 30 years. While NATM has long worked with trailer manufacturers, industry suppliers, and service providers, trailer safety can only be improved through dealer interaction and consumer education. Expanding the Association’s base to include dealer affiliates and now allowing dealers to attend the Annual Convention & Trade Show is the logical next step to advancing the mission of NATM.
The NATM Convention & Trade Show is the annual trade show for the light- and medium-duty trailer industry. With more than 1,000 trailer manufacturer and supplier attendees per year and growing, this "must attend" event provides education, networking and communication for those in the industry. The 2020 soldout trade show boasted over 200 exhibiting companies, with 37 new exhibitors, which gave attendees a variety of products and services to view. The show also included attendees from over 100 trailer manufacturers companies from across North America.
Dealer attendees will have the opportunity to participate in all workshops and technical forums, along with dealer-centered educational sessions. Plan to attend the trade show, which will house 298 booths and an opportunity to network with manufacturers and distributors! Of course, don’t forget the awards luncheon – join your industry peers for a plated lunch and perhaps be the first ever dealer to win an award from NATM. Special networking events will provide the opportunity to mingle with fellow industry peers, trailer manufacturers, and NATM Board Members and staff while in Music City.
NATM is thrilled to involve dealers at the annual show! The Association’s purpose is to open up lines of communication, increase trailer safety awareness, and provide dealers with the education and information they have long requested from NATM. NATM has worked diligently with committees, trailer manufacturers, industry suppliers, and dealers to create a path of inclusion for dealers. NATM can’t wait for you to see what they have planned!
NATM will be offering a “New Dealer Promotion” to help offset costs for dealers attending the show. Companies can sign up for NATM’s Dealer Affiliate Program for just $150 and are then eligible for two complimentary registrations and two free hotel room nights while available! The NATM Dealer Affiliate program is an opportunity to unify the trailer industry in an effort to improve trailer safety and gain access to resources and information previously only available to trailer manufacturers and industry suppliers. To read more about the Dealer Affiliate Program, visit NATM.com/dealers. Non-affiliate dealers can register to attend for $300.

NATM is organizing a virtual Regulatory Roundup and Capitol Hill Visits July 22nd. To ensure that legislators continue to stay abreast of issues related to the light- and medium-duty trailer industry, the Association has shifted this important event online.
The day of activities will be divided into two distinct parts: the Regulatory Roundup, which will be held as an informational webinar in the morning, and virtual Capitol Hill Visits in the afternoon. The day will be very similar to the annual in-person meetings, and NATM hopes to encourage new participants to attend this year to understand the importance of the Association’s advocacy efforts.
The Regulatory Roundup webinar will feature presentations from experts in government affairs, trade or traffic safety. While the schedule has not been finalized for 2020 Roundup Speakers, previous Roundups have featured presentations from Congressional staffers, officials from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), and experts from the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM). The Regulatory Roundup Webinar is open to all NATM members, and NATM encourages anyone interested in attending to sign up to participate. Members do not have to participate in the virtual Hill visits to attend the webinar.
The virtual Capitol Hill Visits will take place in the afternoon. This portion will begin with an informational session on the different congressional offices that NATM teams are scheduled to meet, as well as reviewing the materials and talking points to ensure attendees are familiar and comfortable with the pre-determined messaging.
While the message hasn’t yet been finalized, key talking points will include educating legislators and their staff about NATM’s mission to promote trailer safety and industry best practices. It is important to raise awareness of NATM's work as a third-party inspection body to verify compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, as well as inform legislators that trailers are defined as “motor vehicles” and are thus impacted by legislation often unintentionally. NATM will also be using the COVID-19 Impact Survey data to convey the detrimental impact that COVID-19 has had on the industry.
All attendees will be split into small teams that will have an experienced, veteran team leader to guide participants through the pre-determined talking points. The teams will virtually meet with three to four congressional offices. The meetings will be either video calls via a platform like Zoom or conference calls. The teams will also have an NATM staff member to host the session and to present the PowerPoint presentation if applicable.
