Boardroom Bulletin: Federal Recognition Reinforces the Importance of Trailer Safety

Trailer Safety Week represents something larger than a single week of awareness; it reflects our industry's ongoing commitment to protecting the motoring public through education, advocacy, and safety leadership. 

This year, Trailer Safety Week received federal recognition for the fourth consecutive year, thanks in part to the leadership and support of U.S. Congressman Rep. Rudy Yakym of Indiana and the bipartisan coalition that championed the resolution in Washington. This recognition reinforces an important message: trailer safety is a national priority that affects everyone who shares our roadways. 

As manufacturers, suppliers, dealers, and industry professionals, we understand that safety begins long before a trailer reaches the highway. It starts with quality manufacturing, proper maintenance, and educating end users on safe towing practices. With nearly one million new trailers entering service each year, the need for accessible safety information has never been greater. 

Federal recognition of Trailer Safety Week helps elevate these conversations beyond our industry and into communities across the country. It encourages trailer owners to learn the fundamentals of safe towing, perform routine inspections, and understand the responsibilities that come with operating a trailer. 

Congressman Yakym's continued support demonstrates the value of partnerships between industry and policymakers in advancing roadway safety. By working together, we can continue to raise awareness, reduce preventable incidents, and ensure that trailer safety remains a shared responsibility.
